Rohan Gunaratna, Ph.D., is a globally recognized expert in terrorism, political violence, and counterterrorism. He is a Professor of Security Studies at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, where he leads key international research initiatives on security and extremism. With decades of experience advising governments and international organizations, Dr. Gunaratna has established himself as one of the foremost authorities on global terrorist networks and counter-radicalization strategies.
His research focuses on Islamist militancy, global terrorism trends, insurgency movements, and intelligence-led counterterrorism. He has authored and edited influential books on Al-Qaeda, the Islamic State, and regional militant organizations. In addition to his academic contributions, he frequently appears in international media as a subject matter expert, helping shape both scholarly discourse and policy responses to emerging security threats.
