Jan Ashik Ali, Ph.D., is a distinguished Religious Sociologist specializing in Islam, widely recognized for pioneering Islamic Studies at Western Sydney University. With an extensive academic career spanning teaching, research, and institutional leadership, he has served as Senior Lecturer in Islam and Modernity and Convenor of Islamic Studies. He currently holds multiple international academic affiliations, including Adjunct Fellow at Western Sydney University, Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Islamic Thought and Education, University of South Australia, Adjunct Professor at Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, and Adjunct Assistant Professor at Minhaj University Lahore.
Dr. Ali has played a pivotal role in academic and policy circles through his leadership as President of the Australian Association of Islamic and Muslim Studies and advisory roles in countering violent extremism. A prolific author and editor, his publications include influential books and journal articles on Islamic revivalism, Shariah, terrorism, and Muslim identity in Western contexts.
